Bill Rigney Signed Bowman Contracts and Checks The Bowman Gum, Inc. Co. might have been paying "top dollar" for its rights to players names when Bill Rigney signed his contract with the fledgling card outfit for $10 each for the time periods of 1949, '50 and '51. Rigney, now deceased, was a regular infielder for the New York Giants during this time period. Along with the contracts are cancelled checks from Bowman endorsed by Rigney. After Rigney finished his playing career he became manager of the New York Giants in the mid-1950s including the transfer of the team to San Francisco. He later guided the Minnesota Twins and California Angels, winning the A.L. West title in 1970 with Minnesota. He was also the first manager for the expansion Los Angeles Angels team in 1961.
