1972 Nellie Fox Full Name Signed Check, His Last Season in Baseball. A dominant force in Major League Baseball at second base for over a decade, Nellie Fox was the best contact hitter of his generation. The third most difficult batter to strike out in MLB history, he fanned just once in every forty-eight plate appearances and never more than eighteen times in a season. A twelve-time N.L. All-Star with three Gold Gloves to his credit, Fox finished in the top ten in MVP voting an amazing six times in eight seasons. During his MVP season of 1959, Nellie was the heart and soul of an underdog team that made it all the way to the World Series. Despite losing to the Dodgers in six games, Fox remained in his MVP form by hitting .375 in the Series. White Sox owner Bill Veeck perfectly summed up Fox in 1959 when he wrote that the Sox needed Nellie "no more than your baby needs milk."

Moving from the Nation's Capital to Texas along with the Senators and the majority of Ted Williams' coaching staff, Nellie Fox rounded out his brilliant legacy in the game - which started in 1944 with a Tigers' minor league affiliate - at the end of the 1972 campaign. Signed in impeccable blue ballpoint ink with his full name, "J. Nelson Fox", the 2.75x6" note is made out to "Habitat" for the sum of $124.50 and dated "4-13-(19)72" (two days before the Rangers' season opener. Displaying no wrinkles or folds, the only blemish is a slight tear in the upper right border. Reverse features multiple stampings/cancellations from banks in Texas.

Fox would pass away from skin cancer in late-1975 and would be granted entrance to the halls of Cooperstown posthumously in 1997. Given his premature passing before the collecting craze of the 1980s & '90s, Fox signatures of this quality are tough to come by. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA.
