    1937-39 Norris & Wirtz "Chicago Stadium Corp." Signed Check Lot of 3 - Hockey Hall of Famers. James Dougan Norris was an American sports businessman, with interests in boxing, ice hockey, and horse racing. He was the son of James E. Norris (whom the James Norris Memorial Trophy is named after) and half-brother of Bruce Norris and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame (1962).

    Arthur M. Wirtz, a Chicago native, joined forces in 1931 with James Sr., to form a company to acquire the Detroit Red Wings and Olympia Stadium which were in receivership and couldn't counite operations without financial aid. It was from the beginning that Wirtz expanded into the sport and substantially contributed not only to the growth of hockey in the US but also to its survival. In 1933 Wirtz and Norris acquired control of the Chicago Stadium Corporation, taking it out of receivership. After the passing of Norris Sr., Wirtz and Norris Jr. acquired the tenant of Chicago Stadium (the Chicago Blackhawks) and rebuilt the franchise into the powerhouse that it became. Wirtz was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1971.

    Offered are the following signed checks:

    October 24, 1937 - note made out to Dan Wilder, signed by Wirtz in the lower right corner with some bleeding in the end of his surname. A trio of vertical creases appear with other mild wear.

    November 9, 1938 - note made out to Edw. Fay, signed by Norris Jr. in the lower right corner. Light wear exhibited with no creasing.

    November 11, 1939 - note made out to Fred Ottevaere, signed by Norris Jr. in the lower right corner. Light wear exhibited with no creasing.
