    Description

1925 New York Yankees Check for Purchase of Leo Durocher. Historic bank check precipitated the beginning of a Major League career that would end at the gates of Cooperstown. Though "Leo the Lip" earned his bronze plaque with his managerial skills rather than his aptitude with the lumber and leather--Babe Ruth nicknamed him "the All-American Out" during their shared pinstriped tenure--the importance of this key to the Bigs is undeniable. Obverse is made payable in the sum of $5000 to the "Hartford Baseball Club" and bears 9/10 or better black fountain pen signatures from Yankee brass Ed Barrow and Jake Ruppert. Verso holds typed notation, "Final payment for release of player Durocher to the New York Club." Mild handling wear, but no damage to note. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
