1911 Morgan Bulkeley Signed Check. A veteran of the Union Army in the Civil War and first president of the Aetna Life Insurance Company, Bulkeley is best remembered today as the founder of the Hartford Dark Blues of the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players (1874) and first president of the National League (1876). The 1937 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee is also well known for bedeviling modern autograph collectors, particularly those with a concentration in signed checks. Here we present one of those coveted rarities, and a magnificent example at that. It pays twenty-five dollars in dues to his local Army and Navy Club, and autographed at lower right in the same 10/10 black fountain pen ink. Bank punch coding dots the signature but it still presents nicely, and one cannot be too picky when faced with such a rarity. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
