    Description

1930's-40's George Burke Original Negatives Lot of 275. One of the most famous sports photographers of all time, George Burke started his baseball career in 1929. He would go on to leave a legacy of classic images, both portraits and action shots, usually of individual players instead of groups. Many Burke photos ended up as the central image on cards produced during the same time. This astounding collection features 275+ negatives in various formats, usually just under 5x7" in size, and mostly on either Eastman Kodak/AGFA Silver Nitrate film or Kodak Safety Film. A few negatives on smaller format Safety Film are also included. These negatives can be enjoyed as uniquely one-of-a-kind negatives, or used to produce modern prints of some likely never-before-seen images.

Among the players included are: Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Ruth/Gehrig (6), Joe DiMaggio (3, including one marked 1936, his rookie season), Lefty Gomez, Burleigh Grimes, Lefty Grove, Casey Stengel, Ted Williams, Pee Wee Reese, Jocko Conlan (as a player), Bill Dickey, Leo Durocher, Charles Gehringer, Dizzy Dean, Fred Lindstrom, Al Lopez, Lloyd Waner, Bob Feller, Lou Boudreau, Enos Slaughter and Cy Young in his older years (2).

Obviously, countless other players are also included, with numerous home town heroes and regional stars. This would a worthy lot to compare negatives to card photos from the 1930's and 1940's to see if there are any used on the cards. An excellent, and rare, opportunity to acquire a batch of original negatives from a well-known baseball photographer.
