    Description

Late 1920's Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Signed Baseball. "They didn't get along," Tony Lazzeri once said of his fellow Hall of Fame Yankee teammates. "Lou thought Ruth was a big-mouth, and Ruth thought Gehrig was cheap. They were both right." Though despite the low-grade feud that followed the duo throughout much of their eleven seasons in pinstripes together, no two ballplayers remain linked quite so firmly in baseball's history book. This OAL (Barnard) sphere plays its small role in maintaining this troubled yet extraordinarily successful partnership, offering a sweet spot signature from the Babe and a side panel Gehrig specimen. Each is rendered in black fountain pen ink on the lightly and evenly toned horsehide surface, each maintaining a perfectly respectable 5/10 boldness rating. A clean and solid specimen from the most consistent investment performers in the sports collecting hobby, with the added boost of Gabby Street estate provenance. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
    Guide Value or Estimate: $6,000 - $8,000.

    The Charles "Gabby" Street Collection

The following nine lots derive from the personal collection of Charles "Gabby" Street, whose long career as a player, a manager and a radio broadcaster made him a staple in Big League ballparks for over four decades. Widely credited with developing a young Walter Johnson into the game's most effective pitcher as the Big Train's Washington Senators catcher during Johnson's earliest seasons, Street would gain even greater notoriety as manager of the early 1930's St. Louis Cardinals, who would win two National League pennants and a World Championship under his guidance. All pieces derive directly from the Street family with their letter of provenance.
