    Description

Late 1920's Babe Ruth & Brick Owens Signed Baseball--The Ump He Punched! Intriguing pairing recalls a famous episode from Babe Ruth's early days in Boston. On June 23, 1917, Clarence "Brick" Owens was the home plate umpire as the Babe walked the first Washington Senators batter on four pitches. Promptly ejected for disputing the umpire's calls, Ruth slugged Owens before leaving the field. Ernie Shore then replaced Ruth on the mound, picked the runner off first and then proceeded to retire the next twenty-six Senators batters in order. Long considered a perfect game for Shore, it is instead today recorded as a combined Ruth/Shore no-hitter. The Babe appears on the sweet spot in 7.5/10 ink with his former punching bag inscribing the northern panel in 6/10 ink, "To Dr. Erikson From 'Brick' Owens." OAL (Barnard) ball is lightly and evenly toned. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
