Description
Early 1940's Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb & Tris Speaker Signed Baseball. The original owner's notarized letter of provenance is so magnificent that we reproduce it here: "I do hereby state that in 1943 I was driving to work one evening on Shaker Blvd. in Shaker Heights, Ohio, when another automobile rolled through a stop sign, striking my automobile. The person driving the other automobile was Tris Speaker. It was obvious that Speaker had been drinking and he told me to stop by his office in downtown Cleveland so he could give me something as a way of saying he was sorry for what happened. A couple days later I stopped by his office and Speaker gave me a baseball signed by himself, Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth. I have been in possession of that baseball for more than fifty-one years until today, January 17, 1995."
This incredible DUI "mea culpa" is a gift most collectors would happily trade for a dented fender, compiling what are arguably the three greatest hitters of the pre-war era. The Babe occupies his customary sweet spot on this "National Amateur Baseball Federation" orb, with Speaker and Cobb to the north and south respectively. Each presents at a conservative 8/10 or better, yet another reason why this ball will be the greatest conversation piece in your collection. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
