The Babe visits an injured WWII sailor...

Early 1940's Babe Ruth Single Signed US Military Baseball. Lest you think that the Babe's legendary generosity was restricted only to the children who idolized him, we present this touching evidence to the contrary. Ruth's hospital visit to a young Johnny Sylvester in 1926, for whom he clubbed three World Series home runs, may be his most famous meeting with the infirmed, but some of the brave young men of Allied the war effort likewise enjoyed the company of baseball's greatest figure. This specially produced military version of an OAL (Harridge) sphere was the memento of a young sailor injured on a Navy ship, a ball identical to those used in the Junior Circuit but for the added "U.S." stamping.

But, of course, it's the autograph on the opposite sweet spot that is of the greatest interest, a black fountain pen application that survives with impressive 8/10 strength. The ball itself is likewise a top-tier beauty, with just light toning from seventy years of careful storage. A letter of provenance from the original recipient's nephew is included. A magnificent representation of a Ruth single, with a special, patriotic flair. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
