    Description

Early 1930's Honus Wagner Single Signed Baseball. "You can have your Cobbs, your Lajoies, your Chases, your Bakers," once said Hall of Fame manager John McGraw, "but I'll take Wagner as my pick of the greatest." Perhaps best remembered as the face on the most valuable baseball card in the world, the legendary Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop remains a particularly tough autograph despite his many years in uniform, first as a player and later as a coach for the team he loved. Here we offer a pre-1934 ONL sphere (note the black and red stitching) autographed on the sweet spot by the Old Dutchman. His "J. Honus Wagner" autograph is trailed by a date notation in his hand, but the final numeral is illegible: "2/24/3_." All writing is quite bold, a technical 8/10, but surface scuffing occasionally intersects with the writing. Still a solid example, and quite an early one as most Wagner singles surviving in the modern hobby date to the 1940's. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
