Description

Circa 1950 Frank "Home Run" Baker Single Signed Baseball. Extraordinary single is consigned to this auction by the daughter of Baker's very close friend and neighbor in the town of Trappe, Maryland where the Hall of Fame slugger enjoyed his retirement, and where he passed away in 1963. Our consignor's father was a pallbearer at the funeral. Baker made occasional pilgrimages to Cooperstown during his golden years, but otherwise kept a very low public profile after exiting public life as one of the greatest stars of the Dead Ball Era, so examples of his single signed baseball are few and far between. Here we present what is unquestionably the finest we've ever encountered from that skimpy population, Baker's 9/10 blue fountain pen ink commanding the sweet spot of a creamy OAL (Harridge) baseball. He writes, "To my Good Friend Tony Nardone From J. Frank Baker." A small pink stamp on the sweet spot is the facsimile signature of a minor league baseball president. It's a truly stunning specimen of a ball absent from many of the hobby's most comprehensive assemblies. Please see also the signed photo and postcard from the same source likewise presented within this auction. Letter of provenance from daughter of recipient. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
