    Description

Circa 1940 Honus Wagner & Ty Cobb Dual-Signed Baseball. Unquestionably the finest dual-signed baseball we've ever encountered from the leading Dead Ball Era stars of the National and American Leagues respectively. Only once did these titans of the game meet on the field of battle, in the 1909 World Series, from which derived an apocryphal tale of Cobb taunting Wagner prior to an attempted steal of second, and Wagner knocking loose a couple teeth with the tag. The red-stitched ONL (Frick) baseball suggests this later meeting came in the late 1930's or early 1940's, perhaps at Cooperstown, where both were members of the inaugural 1939 induction class.

Each early legend provides far more than a simple autograph, with Cobb adding "American League 1905-1928" to his side panel signature and the Old Dutchman following his desirable "J. Honus Wagner" autograph format with "1897-1932, 1917 Coach and to day." Their black fountain pen ink rates 8/10 and 9/10 respectively, with Cobb and Wagner stacked on adjacent panels for ideal display. The ball itself is an unblemished, creamy white. An absolutely remarkable specimen for the uncompromising collector. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
