Description
Circa 1932 Lou Gehrig Single Signed Baseball. The Iron Horse's appearance on an ONL (Heydler) baseball leads us rather firmly toward the suspicion that the autograph dates to World Series competition, as there would be no other occasion in which this New York Yankees hero would find himself in such close proximity to a Senior Circuit sphere. With Ford Frick's presidency beginning in 1935, we can date the ball definitively to 1934 or earlier, and the autograph style suggests early 1930's. So our educated guess is this one was signed at Wrigley as the Yanks met the Cubs in a Series best remembered for the Babe's famous "Called Shot." Gehrig's side panel signature is a bit light at 4/10, but remains fully legible and unmistakable nonetheless. Those with any experience in baseball autograph collecting understand just how scarce Gehrig singles are, and will readily excuse the imperfect condition. And taking the probable October vintage of this example into consideration, there is plenty to love about this rare specimen. LOA from PSA/DNA.
