    Description

Circa 1930 Tony Lazzeri Single Signed Baseball. If Lou Gehrig lived in the shadow of Babe Ruth, you can only imagine what life was like for Tony Lazzeri, who would have led the American League in homers during the fabled 1927 Yankees season if not for his two mega-star teammates. Like the man with whom he shared the right side of the Yankee infield for a dozen seasons, Lazzeri's life was far too short, the hard-slugging second sacker passing away in 1946 at age forty-two. These facts have served to limit the availability of Lazzeri singles to just a tiny handful--in fact, this is the first such example to reach the auction block of a major house in the twenty-first century.

The early Italian-American star takes sweet spot honors on the provided "Official League Ball," his blue fountain pen ink surviving at a strength of 6/10. Some light general handling wear remains largely clear of the autograph, though any condition concerns must be forgiven in light of the outrageous scarcity of a ball absent in even the most comprehensive of Yankee and Hall of Fame collections. Many will consider this the most exciting opportunity for autograph collectors in 2013, and who are we to argue with them? Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
