    Description

Circa 1930 Babe Ruth, John McGraw & Connie Mack Signed Baseball. True iconic status in the annals of baseball history and stunning Mint signatures are the common themes that join Mugsy, Mack and the Bambino on this ONL (Heydler) ball. We can only guess at the function that brought these legends together, but the appearance of Gabby Street on the ball, who managed the St. Louis Cardinals against Mack's Athletics in the 1930 World Series suggests it could have been the Fall Classic. Nick Altrock is the only other signer present. We must also note that the mounting hole on a blank side panel, and the cast of characters, almost certainly assures that the ball was a gift from Christy Walsh, known to history as the first sports agent. Walsh was fond of mounting signed baseballs to ink blotters for presentation to friends and dignitaries, and quite a few have surfaced in the hobby over the years. This ball bears all of the hallmarks of a Walsh presentational piece, including the thin layer of shellac that has served its intended purpose of autograph protection nobly. A marvelous keepsake, both in Walsh's day and in our own. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
