    Description

Circa 1920 "Babe" Ruth Single Signed Baseball. Exquisite single finds the greatest figure in the game still framing his famous nickname in quotation marks, an early style that amplifies considerably the already significant appeal of this high-grade representation. Ruth's black fountain pen ink survives with 8/10 strength upon the provided OAL (Johnson) sphere, its distinctive stamping format narrowing the potential vintage to the 1918-24 range. This production period coincides with the most important age in the history of both Ruth and the American League, including the last Red Sox World Championship before "The Curse," the Black Sox scandal, Ruth's trade to the Yankees, and that team's first World Championship. Apparent game use, complete with tobacco stains, suggests the thrilling possibility that this ball was launched for one of the Babe's early homers, though this history has been lost to the ages. Dozens of times as rare as the late and post-career singles that populate the hobby. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
