    Description

Circa 1918 Babe Ruth Single Signed Baseball. Magnificent and ancient rarity dates to the age when Babe Ruth was known as a superstar pitcher, and not the game's premier slugger as history remembers him today. Though wear subsequent to the baseball's signing has diminished the boldness of the autograph to a rating of 2/10 to 3/10, the autograph is unmistakable in its rookie-era styling, far smaller than the more commonly seen model dating from the mid-1920's and beyond. This signature carries particular intrigue for its placement upon an Official National League baseball, which would rather firmly suggest that the ball was autographed during the 1918 World Series, the only reasonable explanation for the Babe's proximity to a Senior Circuit sphere. The "Cork Center" stamping of the ball assures 1917-25 vintage, though, again, the signature style directs us to the earlier portion of that range. No serious collector need be told what a significant premium is attached to Ruth material from his Red Sox days, so we expect great bidding interest in this special artifact. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
