Description
1992 President Richard Nixon "All-Star Baseball Team" Multi-Signed Baseball. "Mr. President, as the nation's number-one baseball fan, would you be willing to name your all-time baseball team?" reporter Cliff Evans asked Richard Nixon at a June 22nd, 1972 press conference. Never one to back down from a challenge, the President gathered up a team that included his son-in-law David Eisenhower (grandson of President Dwight D.) at Camp David in Maryland.Nixon's list, which appeared in newspapers across the country on July 2nd, was actually four lists - pre-war and post-war teams for each the National and American Leagues as he found it "impossible to limit the team to nine men." Selections were limited to players that played from 1925 to 1970 and the final version consisted of 84 boys of summer.
Two decades later Nixon and Eisenhower would revise their selections in advance of a special baseball exhibit at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, California expanding to six lists. The father of the consignor of this baseball, a Nixon/Kissinger aide, passed the ball down the line at gala luncheon acquiring signatures of five All-Stars - Bob Feller (HOF), Rollie Fingers (HOF), George Kell (HOF) Harmon Killebrew (HOF), Brooks Robinson (HOF) - in addition to the two architects. All signers have penned their names in ballpoint ink and an extraneous Andre Thornton signature was added at a later date. Quality is solid throughout with some minor fading and saturation on this lightly toned Rawlings unofficial ball. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
