Description

1988 President Ronald Reagan Single Signed Baseball. He played George Gipp in "Knute Rockne, All American" and Grover Cleveland Alexander in "The Winning Team," so the conservative icon could be considered quite at home in a sports collectibles auction. He's unquestionably the toughest Presidential single of those serving in the past four decades, so his sweet spot signature on the presented ONL (Giamatti) ball will be a welcome sight even to those with leftward leanings.

The ball was signed and dated by the President for Chicago Cubs videographer Bob Searles, who met Reagan as he visited Wrigley Field to throw out the first pitch on September 30, 1988. As a letter of provenance from a family friend notes, Reagan had also thrown out the pitch at the home opener that year, a six to nothing victory over the Pirates that led fans to believe that this might final be the year. But, of course, it was not. Searles asked Reagan to date the ball since his beloved Cubs were once again bound for the role of playoff spectator.

While Reagan singles always command collecting attention, those signed while in office, and particularly those dating to the final months of his eight years in the White House, are particularly prized. The blue ballpoint ink rates 8/10, and the ball is moderately toned but still presents very well. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
