1977 Thurman Munson Single Signed Baseball. The New York Yankees embrace tradition and their fans covet pinstriped heroes above all else. Growing up in the small city of Canton, Ohio, Thurman Munson didn't think about the bright lights of New York. He went out, did his business and excelled at Kent State before being drafted by the Yankees. Eventually, it was Munson who settled into the role of backstop for the Yankees. Coming off a rare downward swing, he helped elevate the Yankees back into their rightful spot among the sport's elite teams. For his considerable efforts, Munson was bestowed "captain" status, thus joining the likes of Ruth and Gehrig. His death sent shockwaves throughout baseball and broke the hearts of Yankees' fans alike. Given the fact he deflected the spotlight to others, Munson single signed baseballs are a true commodity in the baseball world. Yes, Munson is featured on team signed baseballs, but a single signed orb is cause for celebration. Signed at an banquet in Canton honoring his achievements in baseball is this OAL (MacPhail) ball with "Hometown Salute" stamped on a side panel. This glorious baseball is signed on the sweet spot in stunning 9/10 blue ink. The ball has been in our consignor's collection since the day it was blessed by the captain. Very few spots are scattered about, with none affecting the signature. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
