    Description

1970 Pele Game Worn & Signed Brazilian National Team Jersey with Teammate Provenance.
His was the most important and storied career in the history of the sport of soccer (or "football," if you live in any country other than the United States), but the event widely considered to be the legendary Brazilian's paramount masterpiece was his play in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. After his nation's four to one victory over Italy in the World Cup Final, Italian defender Tarcisio Burgnich, who had been assigned the unenviable task of marking the world's top striker, addressed the press. "I told myself before the game, he's made of skin and bones just like everyone else--but I was wrong."

The jersey which the sport's greatest figure wore in that 1970 World Cup Final commanded a winning bid of over $215,000 in a 2002 auction, and would likely far exceed that figure if it were to resurface. Until then, this offering will serve as an effective alternative, a jersey virtually identical in design to that World Cup gamer, worn just weeks earlier in a friendly warm-up match between Brazil and powerhouse Mexican professional team Chivas Guadalajara.

The yellow-with-green-trim style is Brazil's (and Pele's) most recognizable, with a national crest over the heart and the immortal number "10" on verso. Interior collar holds Brazilian "Athleta, Superball" labeling. Light wear is evident, and a 9/10 black sharpie signature appears at upper chest.

The jersey is accompanied by a letter of provenance from the sister of Afonso Celso Garcia Reis, a Santos teammate of Pele best remembered for his successful battle against Brazilian football's reserve clause--effectively that nation's equivalent of Curt Flood. With royal heritage, elite vintage and ironclad provenance, this is one of the finest soccer jerseys to tempt a bidding audience in recent years. Letter of provenance from sister of Pele teammate.
