1962 New York Mets Spring Training Signed Baseball. The earliest Mets ball in existence? It would be tough to beat it, as inaugural season manager Casey Stengel notates his sweet spot signature "3/16/62," predating by one month the inception of perhaps the most hopeless regular seasons in baseball history. He likewise pens on another panel "Tampa 3-12-62" during a slightly earlier encounter with the ONL (Giles) orb. Joining Stengel in bold blue ballpoint ink are Gil Hodges, Rogers Hornsby, Red Ruffing, Frank Thomas, Don Zimmer, Solly Hemus, Gus Bell and two others with no apparent Mets affiliation. The autographs are coated in a light application of shellac which has served its intended purpose well. An exciting relic from the true infancy of a team celebrating its Golden Anniversary this year. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
