1961 Ty Cobb Single Signed Baseball--A Month before His Passing. The greatest star of the Dead Ball Era died at Emory Hospital on July 17, 1961 with a Colt .45 pistol and a million dollars in negotiable bonds in a paper bag by his bedside. Though Cobb's gruff personality is as permanent a fixture of his legacy as his long-standing hits record, he remained a faithful signer to the end, as this "Official Tri-County League" baseball indicates. In his standard green ink, the dying legend has inscribed, "To Bobby Wood From Ty Cobb, 6/9/61." The writing survives with impressive 8/10 boldness, and some scattered brown splotches remain confined to the opposite hemisphere and absent from view upon display. One of the last singles from the great Georgia Peach. Full LOA from PSA/DNA Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
