1956 Don Larsen World Series Perfect Game Used Baseball. Thrilling find is consigned to Heritage by the executor of the estate of "Milkman Jim" Turner, former Yankees pitcher (1943-45) who later served as the club's pitching coach under Casey Stengel from 1949 through 1959. As an assortment of vintage photographs will attest, Turner was an avid collector of memorabilia during his years of service to the Majors, so when one of his students posted the greatest pitching performance in the history of World Series competition, he quite reasonably saved a memento. The executor of the will found the dirty OAL (Harridge) sphere in a labeled container along with a ticket stub from the famed 1956 World Series Game Five, the latter autographed to Turner's daughter in 8/10 rather sloppy script, "One of the sweetest persons I have met, Best Always, Don Larsen." Clearly the signature dates to the time of the game.

The signature on the ball itself, admittedly, does not, but the accompanying provenance is convincing. Larsen's blue ink autograph here rates a perfect 10/10, as does his "10-8-56" notation. Among the seven photos included is one of Turner packing his locker after the 1956 World Series was clinched, a few picturing his impressive collection, and another of him presiding over drills for the 1956 pitching squad. Finally, we have Turner's last player's contract with the 1945 Yankees, signed by Turner and Yankees president Larry MacPhail, and initialed by Ed Barrow. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
