1954 Dave Bancroft Single Signed Baseball. At eighty years old, just a year before his 1972 passing, "Beauty" Bancroft finally realized his dream of Cooperstown enshrinement, ensuring that future generations of collectors would swoon at the sight of pieces such as this. It's arguably the finest Bancroft single on earth, though admittedly it's not much of a competition. Only three examples appear in our comprehensive database of major auction results dating back to 1999. But make no mistake, this is a Beauty on any terms. The full blue ink inscription rates at 9/10 and extends from the western panel to the sweet spot, reading "Superior, Wis. 3-15-54, My best wishes to Arnold Baseball Museum, Dave Bancroft." Some mild toning on the southern panel causes no real distraction on an otherwise clean and marvelously white relic. Yes, it really is as pretty as it looks in our photos. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
