Description
1954 Boston Red Sox Team Signed Baseball with Harry Agganis, PSA/DNA NM+ 7.5. They called him "The Golden Greek," a homegrown hero and star quarterback for Boston University who Hall of Fame coach Paul Brown drafted in 1952 to succeed Otto Graham for the Cleveland Browns. But Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey won the battle instead, installing Agganis at Fenway's first base. Agganis suddenly fell ill early in his sophomore season, and three and a half weeks after his final Big League appearance he passed away from a pulmonary embolism on June 27, 1955 at age twenty-six. His flawless rookie signature appears with twenty-seven other equally pristine examples from teammates including Williams, Piersall, Boudreau, Lepcio, Jensen, White and more. If it's not the finest example on earth, we'd like to see the one that beats it. OAL (Harridge). Autographs graded 9/10 by PSA/DNA, and baseball 6/10 for combined score as listed. Full Grading COA from PSA/DNA, NM+ 7.5. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. The Ray Crump Collection
The memorabilia in this section originates from personal collection of Ray Crump, who got his start in baseball within the Washington Senators' clubhouse, serving as a batboy for the club beginning in 1948. When the Senators moved to Minnesota in 1961, he came North with them to become the Twins' first equipment manager, a position he held until retiring from the organization in 1984. This long tenure in the American League provided Mr. Crump with the ability to amass a vast collection of keepsakes, which are presented in the pages that follow.
