Description

1951 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball. It was a season of transition for the boys in pinstripes in 1951. Longtime leader Joe DiMaggio retired after the season, while Mickey Mantle was through with his turbulent minor league days and up in the bigs for good. Winning their eighteenth pennant, they defeated the New York Giants in the World Series in six games. It would prove to be valuable experience for "The Mick" to take part in his first championship games, as he would go on to lead the team to seven titles in his career.

The offered ball is scuffed with most of the original markings gone, but retains a small portion of the Reach logo. It includes a Joe DiMaggio clubhouse signature on the sweet spot (4/10) and Mantle (6/10) just to his left. Other notables include Whitey Ford (likely a later addition in 8/10), Ed Lopat, Ralph Houk, Phil Rizzuto and Yogi Berra. Most signatures have faded over time and due to the ball's condition, but range from 2 to 5/10. Thankfully, the Mantle rookie signature is among the strongest in the group, making this ball worthy of a spot in any collection. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. HA is a traditional auction house, they set up their auctions slightly different from typical domain auctions. This works well, it seems to be a good mix of old age (live bidding in a prestigious hotel) and new age (online bidding).
