    Description

1949 "Home Run Hitters" Signed Baseball with Campanella, Hodges. Umpire Babe Pinelli was decades ahead of his time, apparently, going out of his way to create the sort of theme ball that wouldn't become commonplace until the 1980's in the collecting hobby. Upon an ONL (Frick) ball, he compiled the autographs of the top eleven home run hitters of the National League. In order: Kiner (54), Musial (36), Sauer (31), Thomson (27), Gordon (26), Ennis (25), Seminick (24), Hodges (23), Snider (23), Westlake (23) and Campanella (22). Pinelli's autograph, to which he has added a "Home Run Hitters 1949" notation, makes it an even dozen. Autograph quality averages 8/10, with light scuffing rather than ink fading accounting for the score as listed. A remarkable rarity for lovers of the long ball. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication. Guide Value or Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500.
