Description

1948 Babe Ruth Single Signed Baseball. High-grade specimen dates to just five months before the Bambino's untimely passing, as indicated by a charming letter of provenance from our consignor, who reports that her father took her "to a fund-raising barbeque event attended by Babe Ruth on March 16, 1948 in the Lakeland (FL) area...I was almost 5 years old at the time. Dad was active with the Jaycees, who were involved in the organizing of the event, and took one of his AAA balls with him to the event to hopefully get signed by Ruth. Babe Ruth did indeed sign the ball and wanted me to sit on his knee, but I was shy and would not...now I wish I had..." Thankfully, this stunning memento of the encounter survives, an Official American Association sphere bearing a gorgeous 8.5/10 blue fountain pen signature from the greatest name in baseball history. A few spots of inconsequential toning are noted in the interest of full disclosure, but there is nothing that excludes the offering from the top five percent of all known Ruth singles. A top-tier specimen for the most discriminating collector. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
