1947 Babe Ruth Signed Baseball with Photo Documentation. This "Official League" orb was once the proud possession of a young ballplayer named Bob Yurko, who was photographed by the local newspaper as he watched the Babe sign it. A pair of photocopies of the August 22, 1947 Tribune reprint the scene, and note that Ruth had been watching an amateur game in Billings, Montana before heading for the coast. The ball that the Babe holds in his hands in that newspaper still retains a tremendous amount of appeal these six decades later, with a 5/10 sweet spot signature projecting from beneath a thin brushing of shellac. The ball itself has toned to a moderate brown shade and shows some mild damage on another panel (invisible upon display) from having been mounted into some sort of display. A perfectly respectable example of this essential single, made all the more appealing by the added documentation. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
