Description

1938 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Signed Baseball with Babe Ruth. Still chasing his dream to manage a Big League ballclub, the great Bambino accepted the position of first base coach for the the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1938, though it would not prove to be the stepping stone he had hoped. In the end, Ruth's employment was revealed to be little more than a publicity stunt, a ploy to put fans in the stands to watch the forty-three year old Sultan swat a few batting practice home runs prior to the main event. Here he joins the team for which he wore his last Major League uniform, applying an 8/10 blue ink signature to the sweet spot of an ONL (Frick) orb. Fellow Hall of Famers Cuyler (6/10), Haines (7/10) and Durocher (4/10) join the Babe, as well as fourteen other prewar Bums including Lavagetto, Hassett and Koy. Decades of surface wear has lowered many of the autographs to 5/10 or below but the most notable names have miraculously fared the best, providing an attractive option for the collector wishing to bring some iconic names into his trophy room without an exorbitant price tag.
