1938 Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio & More Signed Baseball. A charming 2008 notarized letter from ninety year-old Norman Kirmer recounts the story of a a night seven decades earlier when he and a friend "crashed" a press club dinner at Manhattan's Ambassador Hotel, managing to rub shoulders with many of the greatest stars of the prewar era before security escorted them from the premises. Here we present the fruits of Mr. Kirmer's youthful indiscretion, a magnificently preserved OAL (Harridge) ball autographed by twenty attendees of the January 29, 1938 banquet. Most notable, in his customary sweet spot position, is the great Babe Ruth, with the young Yankee legend in the making Joe DiMaggio nearby on a side panel. Joining these iconic Yanks are Frank Frisch, Herb Pennock, Ford Frick, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, Joe Cronin, Joe Medwick, Casey Stengel, Bill Terry (4/10) and more. That's ten Hall of Famers! Autograph quality, unless otherwise noted, is 7/10 or better, with most of the balance similarly fine. An expertly applied coating of shellac is largely responsible for the preservation. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
