    Description

1937 Rogers Hornsby Signed Baseball. Game used ONL (Frick) sphere apparently saw action during a September 21, 1937 contest between the Giants and Cubs according to a vintage notation in an unknown hand. The ball is autographed by two of that contest's umpires--Babe Pinelli (Larsen perfect game home plate umpire) and Beans Reardon (Babe Ruth 714th home run home plate umpire)--as well as Hall of Fame slugger Rogers Hornsby, apparently in Chicago looking for a managerial or coaching position after ending his playing career months earlier at age forty-one. Reardon inscribed "National League Umpire." Autographs average 9/10. Hornsby singles with autographs of this quality approach the five-figure mark, so this is a fine compromise. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
