Description

1934 Tour of Japan Team Signed Cigarette Lighter Baseball. We all know that smoking is a bad habit, but the true vintage baseball fan must still show the addiction some grudging gratitude. Without the siren's song of nicotine, the hobby would lack its greatest trading card era, and Honus Wagner wouldn't be its million dollar baby. Here we have another opportunity to tip a cap to tobacco as we present one of the most coveted relics from the transformative 1934 Tour of Japan.

Having already auctioned the personal representations of Lou Gehrig ($41,825) and Lefty O'Doul ($38,838), we are able to infer that this example likely belonged to one of the participants in the trans-Pacific excursion, though his identity has been lost to history. He's probably one of the eighteen men whose autographs appear on the four side panels, an assembly of legends, journeymen, staffers and even a government spy. The first two members of the 500 Home Run Club, Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx, present with 10/10 black fountain pen boldness together on a side panel. Other Hall of Famers: Gehrig (2/10), Gehringer (6/10), Gomez (7/10), Mack (9/10). Balance ranges from 1/10 to 7/10, fairly evenly distributed between the upper and lower portions of that spectrum. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
