The most significant baseball foreign excursion in history.
1934 Tour of Japan Team Signed Baseball. It was a story that had it all. Exotic locales, legendary athletes, international espionage. When the best of this nation's Major Leagues exploded onto the scene in the Land of the Rising Sun, the baseball world was changed forever. Relics from this groundbreaking event seven decades ago are among the most rare and desirable in the hobby, and here we find a top-tier specimen ferried back across the Pacific from its birthplace. The Japanese-made "Tamazawa Official American Ball" is the type used in competition as the star-studded cast of Major Leaguers faced off against Japan's collegiate best, and the possibility that this moderately toned horsehide actually saw action in one of the games is real. Sixteen Tourists have applied their black fountain pen signatures to the ball, with the iconic Babe Ruth (7/10) taking appropriate sweet spot honors. Immediately to his left is Yankees sidekick Lou Gehrig (8/10), and further examination finds Jimmie Foxx (5/10), Earl Averill (9/10), Connie Mack (7/10), Charlie Gehringer (6/10), Lefty Gomez (6/10), Moe Berg (6/10), Lefty O'Doul (5/10), Eric McNair (6/10), Frank Hayes (8/10), Earl Whitehill (5/10), Rabbit Warstler (5/10), Bing Miller (2/10), Clint Brown (2/10) and Joe Cascarella (2/10). A rock-solid example of a ball essential to any collection exploring the international growth of our National Pastime. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.Auction Info
