Description

1934 St. Louis Cardinals Team Signed Baseball. Astounding condition and world-class provenance join forces to provide for the most desirable Gashouse Gang team ball we've ever encountered. It derives from the personal collection of Don Gutteridge, who would not join the Major League ranks (with the Cardinals) until 1936, but this is clearly the 1934 team, including players like Tex Carleton (who was traded to the Cubs in November 1934) and Pat Crawford (who retired at the close of the Championship season). Also note that the ball is an ONL (Heydler) model, with Ford Frick assuming the presidency for the 1935 season. One must then assume that the ball was signed by Gutteridge and fellow 1936 rookie Cotton Pippen during 1934 spring training, where they practiced with the likes of Medwick, Haines, Frisch, Vance, Durocher and the Dean brothers, all of whom are present among the twenty-four 9/10 and better signatures. Every starting line-up member is here, as are coaches Gonzalez and Wares, and the very tough Bill DeLancey who passed away in 1946. Ball is consigned by Gutteridge's grandson, along with the 1944 Browns baseballs and American League Championship ring also presented within this auction. Letter of provenance from grandson of Don Gutteridge. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
