    Description

1932-33 New York Yankees & Scranton Miners Teams Signed Baseball. This Reach "'Babe' Ruth Home Run Special" baseball was signed by fifteen New York Yankees and Scranton Miners of the New York-Pennsylvania League at an exhibition game in 1932 or 1933.

New York is represented by Babe Ruth across the spot and Lou Gehrig to his right on a side panel. Others include Earle Combs, Lyn Lary, Myril Hoag, Bob Shawkey, Jumbo Brown, and Ben Chapman. Scranton, meanwhile, is represented by Butch Meyers, Walter Novak, Kinner Graf, Frank Emmer, Jack Ernst, Al Reitz, and Boob Fowler. The ball has toned and the ball appears to have been shellacked to preserve the autographs which grades an overall 5/10 with Ruth a 6/10) and Gehrig a 5.5/10.

Shawkey pitched for the Yankees from 1915-27, coached them in 1929, and managed them in 1930. He also managed Scranton in 1932-33. The ball is also accompanied by a 1974 typed and sign letter from Ken Smith (director of the Baseball Hall of Fame at the time), on Cooperstown letterhead, which provided our consignor with valuable information regarding authenticity, provenance, and value. Together, the baseball and letter make an most fascinating ensemble. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
