    Description

1931 Tour of Japan Team Signed Baseball Cigarette Lighter. While the 1934 Tour tends to get all the attention, the earlier version was no slouch, with top names and much greater rarity from a collectibles standpoint. Here we find one of the scarce surviving artifacts from that initial journey to the Far East, a team signed baseball pressed into service as a cigarette lighter. Noteworthy signers among the eleven legible autographs are Gehrig (2/10), Grove (6/10), Cochrane (1/10), Maranville (6/10), Frisch (3/10), O'Doul (5/10). The ball has been shellacked and exhibits a couple flat spots and general wear from handling. For some reason a markered "1910" appears over the illegible stamping of the ball, but this appears to have been applied much later. It remains invisible upon display, exactly opposite the lighter mechanism. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
