1931 Rube Walberg 107th Career Win Game Ball With Inscription Signed Ball. In a 15-season career spanning from 1923-1937, George "Rube" Walberg won 155 games, including 15 shutouts and 140 complete games. The ball we offer comes directly from the hurlers daughter with a full letter of authenticity with photos of the offered ball. The ball comes from a A's White Sox contest from 8/22/31. Following the game Walberg noted the score along with both batteries involved in the game as follows, "Last Ball in game at Chicago August 22nd. The pitchers and catchers from the game are also listed featuring Ted Lyons, and Mickey Cochrane. Walberg did not sign the ball, but the lengthy inscription with his last name written and letter of provenance make for a unique and rare collectible.
A consistent and durable pitcher, Walberg averaged 16 wins for the Philadelphia Athletics of Connie Mack from 1926 to 1932, with career-highs of 20 wins in 1931 and 18 in 1929. He also had a 1-1 mark with a 1.93 ERA for the Athletics in five World Series appearances. A good-hitting pitcher, Walberg collected a .220 batting average with four home runs and 84 runs batted in .
Walberg surrendered 17 home runs to Babe Ruth , more than did any other pitcher. The Loa from the family, has some minimal water spots, but the photo match is unquestionably the same and the text on the letter is not affected. Letter Of Authenticity from Family. Pre Certified by PSA/DNA.
