Golden Age Yankee pairing in a stunning state of preservation
1930's Lou Gehrig & Tony Lazzeri Dual Signed Baseball. For a dozen seasons, this Hall of Fame duo patrolled ninety feet of Bronx infield clay together, earning six American League pennants and five World Championships while charting joint paths to Cooperstown immortality. While Ruth and Gehrig are commonly found in horsehide pairings, this is the first we've ever encountered celebrating this equally fruitful partnership. The intense rarity renders the remarkable degree of preservation as virtual overkill, but unquestionably establishes this as best in breed if another example does indeed exist.A milky-white "Wilson Boys League" baseball serves as the medium for the superstar first and second basemen, who utilize bold black fountain pen ink to supply their side panel signatures. Each remains effectively unchanged from the date of application, rating a solid 9/10.
Tony Lazzeri was known as "the quiet man" of the Yankees, and the noble humility of his teammate Lou Gehrig is a matter of public record. As numbers two and three in the 1927 home run rankings behind the great Babe Ruth, Gehrig and Lazzeri serve equally well as the boisterous Bambino's foil, and together inspire the collector whose personal ethos finds as much honor in speaking softly as in carrying a big stick.
