The toughest single of the 1939 Hall of Fame inaugural class
1930's Grover Cleveland Alexander Single Signed Baseball. Whether collectors of singles from 300 Game Winners, or simply from Hall of Famers, most will be lacking an example from this troubled legend, whose alcoholism, epilepsy and post-traumatic stress from World War I horrors couldn't derail one of the most remarkable pitching careers in baseball history. Alexander's death in 1950, and the aforementioned afflictions that saw him absent from the public eye with only rare exceptions since the end of his barnstorming days in the mid-1930's, have left only a tiny supply of single signed baseballs available to the collecting market. Here we present a solid example to fill that nagging hole in one top collector's trophy case. Old Pete's distinctive script fills the sweet spot of a non-official sphere in unpersonalized format, his "GC Alexander" rating a solid seven on a ten-point scale. The ball itself is lightly and evenly toned, with a few small abrasions that cause little visual distraction. It's a splendid representation from the man who shares the bronze medal platform with the noble Christy Mathewson for career victories at 373. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
