1930 Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Signed Baseball. Though it's been widely reported that this most effective pair of sluggers ever to share a dugout were not on the best of terms through most of their shared Yankee tenure, their multiple appearances together during the off-season, most notably in the famous Bustin' Babes vs. Larrupin' Lous barnstorming tours of 1927-28, suggest otherwise. The presented baseball derives from another promotional appearance for the Hall of Fame duo, with a West New York, NJ ballclub at Dexter Park in Brooklyn just after the close of the 1930 Major League season, and we've managed to track down an image from the event (not included in lot but visible in our online listing).Ruth and Gehrig appear at 6/10 and 7/10 strength respectively on the side panel of the "Official League Special" ball beneath a date notation in an unknown hand. One almost never finds the pair so ideally placed together on a single panel, providing the ideal display capabilities. We believe that the sweet spot signatures of Mickey Cochrane and Jimmy Dykes derive from a separate event, as it doesn't appear these World Champion Philadelphia Athletics were on site with Ruth and Gehrig in New Jersey.
