    Description

1928 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball. Only the slightest roster variations--most notably the arrival of rookie future Hall of Famer Leo Durocher--separate the 1928 Yankees squad from the 1927 model, universally considered the greatest baseball team in the game's long history. An impressive roster of twenty-five autographs coat this OAL (Johnson) sphere, representing the row that murdered the Cardinals in a four-game Series sweep to repeat as Champions of the World. The Babe (8/10) occupies his standard sweet spot position, shared with the proud team owner Colonel Jacob Ruppert (8/10). Joining Ruth in Cooperstown are Gehrig (7/10), Combs (8/10), Durocher (5/10), Combs (8/10), Lazzeri (5/10), Dickey (7/10) and Hoyt (7/10). The balance of signatures falls within this range with only a few exceptions, providing fine examples from the likes of Bengough, Meusel, Paschal, Collins and even Tom Zachary, who had surrendered Ruth's record-setting sixtieth home run a season earlier as a pitcher for the Washington Senators. A splendid find making its first hobby appearance here, certain to draw tremendous interest from cultured Golden Age collectors. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
