1927 New York Yankees Partial Team & Walter Johnson Signed Baseball. The consignor's letter of provenance ably tells the tale: "[The ball] originally belonged to my Grandfather, a 'dyed in the wool' Yankees fan who grew up in Gloversville, NY. Grandfather had moved to Bethesda, MD in the early 1920's, where he became a neighbor and friend to Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson. On August 13, 1927, the Yankees came to town to play the Washington Senators. Grandpa attended the game, and Walter Johnson introduced him to at least nine of the Yankee team members including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig who all signed the ball for him..." And indeed we find that the eventual World Champs disappointed the fans at Griffith Stadium with a six to three victory over their hosts on this day, but the young fan who inked a "8/13/27" notation on the ball had the thrill of his lifetime. Applied to the toned horsehide of this OAL (Johnson) sphere are the following autographs: Ruth (8/10), Gehrig (6/10), Pennock (6/10), Johnson (6/10), Hoyt (7/10), Lazzeri (7/10), Shocker (7/10), Meusel (9/10), Thomas (6/10), Collins (6/10). A couple small stains, one intersecting with the first letter of Ruth's autograph, are of little distraction. The Murderer's Row vintage and who's who of Golden Age baseball legends will override any condition concerns. A marvelous study in baseball greatness. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
