    Description

1927 Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Signed Baseball. An included page from the October 19, 1927 edition of The Sioux City Daily recounts the scene in vivid terms as the Bustin' Babes vs. Larrupin' Lou's tour drew 5,000 excited schoolkids to the baseball grounds to watch the recently crowned World Champions face off in a barnstorming contest just weeks after the conclusion of their greatest Yankee season. One of those schoolkids came away with the presented sphere, consigned to Heritage by his descendents and introduced to the collecting hobby in this auction. The ONL (Heydler) ball was almost certainly used in the game, as one wouldn't expect a kid in Iowa to own such a thing, but the real draw is the pair of autographs from the marquee players, thrillingly paired on a side panel in 8/10 blue ink and 7/10 black ink for Ruth and Gehrig respectively. Dazzy Vance (5/10) occupies the sweet spot, and Wattie Holm and George Pipgras round out the signing roster. Ideal vintage meets ideal display. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
