    Description

1921 "Babe" Ruth & Bob Meusel Signed Baseball. The derivation of this highly collectible sphere is the fateful barnstorming tour undertaken by this Yankees pair after the 1921 World Series, an action taken despite warnings from Commissioner Landis that such a tour would violate the terms of their contracts. As the price for their excursion, both Ruth and Meusel would face a five week suspension at the start of the 1922 season and the loss of their shares of the 1921 Series cash, close to $50,000 in today's currency. Meusel appears to the north, and to the south we find a third autograph of Mayor George Buck, who served at Buffalo, New York's City Hall from 1918-22. Ruth and Meusel rate perhaps 6/10 on the toned hide of the Draper & Maynard sphere beneath a thin coating of shellac. An intriguing piece from the early days of Ruth's pinstriped service. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
