1920s Detroit Tigers Stars Single Signed Baseball Lot of 2 with Johnny Neun and Johnny Bassler.Offered are a pair of single signed baseballs from Detroit Tigers stars of the 1920s, Johnny Neun and Johnny Bassler.
Neun: ONL (Frick) ball that has been shellacked on the sweet spot signature and shows moderate wear throughout. Neun's greatest baseball moment came on May 31st, 1927 when he turned the seventh unassisted triple play in MLB history and the first of such that ended a game.
Bassler: OAL (Harridge) ball that has been entirely shellacked is signed by Bassler on a side panel and displays moderate-to-heavy toning and wear. A member of the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame Bassler played an impressive 26 seasons of professional baseball, with 9 of those coming in the major leagues. He was acquired by Detroit in 1921 at the recommendation of Ty Cobb and proved the Georgia Peach's instincts correct, finishing top-7 in MVP voting each year from 1922 to 1924. Though only the most devout baseball aficionados may have heard his name, statistician Bill James believes that Bassler would have ranked as a top-20 catcher of all-time had his career not been so brief. He career on-base percentage ranks as the second highest in major league history for a catcher.
