Description
A rare "playing days" single in Official format
1920's Ty Cobb Single Signed Baseball. The Ban Johnson presidential stamping on this Official American League baseball assures that the man whose bold blue fountain pen signature appears on the side panel was still contributing to his record stat lines when he applied his essential autograph. The Georgia Peach finally hung up his notorious spikes in 1928, a year after Johnson surrendered to Ernest Barnard leadership of the Junior Circuit, though the specifics of the ball's stamping here confines the vintage to a period between 1910 and 1925. As such, we can conclude that Cobb was still a representative of the Detroit Tigers when he laid pen to horsehide, the team to which he dedicated all but the final two seasons of his professional career. While any Cobb single carries enormous collecting appeal, the early vintage of the provided representation sets it apart from (and above) the general population that skews overwhelmingly to his three decades of retirement. And of the skeleton crew of "playing days" entrants, this model distinguishes itself for its fine quality, the 8/10 boldness of the autograph superior to all but a handful of specimens from the first quarter of the twentieth century. Certainly one of the most desirable Cobb singles available in the collecting marketplace. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
