1920's Christy Mathewson & Carl Hubbell Signed Baseball. Arguably the two greatest stars ever to take the mound for the New York Giants, this Hall of Fame duo posted 626 victories for the franchise en route to Cooperstown. The provided ONL (Heydler) sphere began its life as a Mathewson single, as the "Oct. 8, 1922" notation below Matty's 7/10 side panel signature predates by six seasons Hubbell's Big League debut. The date of Mathewson's signature coincides with the Fall Classic clincher for the Giants over their Polo Grounds tenants the New York Yankees, the final World Championship the team would enjoy until Hubbell pitched twenty innings without an earned run to lead New York to victory in 1933.

Hubbell's stylized black fountain pen signature appears on an adjacent panel, applied with equivalent boldness to that of his legendary predecessor, and positioned so that either autograph could display convincingly as a single. Mathewson's tragic passing three years before Hubbell's rookie debut effectively assures that this is the only such duo ball in existence. The exceedingly rare relic derives from the estate of Albert Kenny, the man who gave John McGraw his start in baseball with a semi-pro Elmira, New York team and who remained his friend and mentor until his own passing in 1931. PSA/DNA notes scattered faded signatures no longer visible without a spectrometer and writes its letter only for the two autographs listed in our lot title. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
